| Telephone nurse triaging is wrong | ||

It has been my experience that dealing with a nurse instead
of a PCP has caused delays that shouldn't have taken place. The nurse decides if it is
necessary to see a physician and when to see the physician. A call can be made at 8:00AM
and the nurse decides to call back around 6:00PM. The come back is "Well if you
thought it was bad enough, you could have gone to the ER." I have seen several
patients having to deal with this type of situation and consider it wrong. I work in a
pharmacy and work with the patients on a one on one level. A person goes to medical school, takes on the responsibilities of people's health and then turn it over to a nurse who went to school for 4 years. I don't get it! Where does the responsibility of the PCP come in? Are they so busy that they don't have time to care for the patients that put them on the map in the first place? Physicians are hired by the patients and now the patients are being turned over to nurses. This is very wrong in my opinion. The patients were there to allow the physician to grow in his/her field of medicine and now the patients aren't good enough to take care of. If I sound outraged, it's because I am! |
